Ive been using Steam for years now and it seems to get a regular stream of updates and great new features and now theres a new and improved browser (for browser geeks like me, it now uses Webkit) which can be used ingame.
Steam is a great way to stay in touch with Guild mates through voice/text chat and to purchase and manage Guild wars and NCSoft games but to me its greatest strength for Guild wars players and MMORPG players alike is its in built browser.
First install Steam from here and create an account. Once installed click ‘Add a Game‘ then ‘Add a Non-steam Game‘. Browse for your the Guild wars shortcut or the Game executable which can be found in the Guildwars programs file directory. Full details on the process can be found here

Finally under the ‘Games’ tab launch Guildwars, and while playing at any point press the Shift+Tab keys together to launch the steam overlay.
Here a few uses
- Get helpful information from the official and our wiki quickly without leaving the game
- Listen to online radio or music while playing PVP
- Watch youtube or even a TV show or other online videos while waiting for a Pick Up Group
- Its a freakin Web Browser with Flash and Java! The list is endless…
There’s also some smaller features which are useful in Steam. As you can see in the above screen capture there’s also a laptop battery meter (bottom right) and your systems current time (top left).
To summarize, Steam adds allot of value to your gaming and Guildwars experience Its definitely worth at least a look at.
