How to prepare for Guild Wars 2

By Redean September 14, 2010 Follow Author

Tearing your hair out waiting for Guild Wars 2? Maybe this guide will help!

Prepare for gw2, CHAARGE!!!

Heres a few things to keep your lust for Guild wars 2 under control while progressing towards the Tyria future that awaits.

  • Play through Guild Wars 1

Have a play through each of the campaigns at least once, there may be alot of lore that you didn’t pick up the first time through. The Eye of the North expansion is especially important in this regards though I won’t give out any spoilers for those who haven’t finished it yet.

There has also been a lot of new updates from the ‘Guild wars live team’ such as the War in Kryta which has bits of lore leading up to Gw2 and there has even been hints of similar events for Cantha and Elona so stay tuned.

If you are yet to buy a campaign, now is the time to buy it! All installments of GW1 are very good games in their own right even in today’s world of gaming and they all deserve at least one play through.

  • Fill your Hall of Monuments

The Eye of the North expansion introduced the Hall of Monuments which allows various symbols of your characters achievements to be displayed and not only this you will also be rewarded in Guild Wars 2 in the form of cosmetic enhancements. Although its currently unclear what these achievements will ultimately relate to in GW2 you can still fill you Hall of Monuments as much as possible to ensure your Guild Wars 2 characters prosper in their inherited wealth (well cosmetic wealth….).

A lot of things that go into the hall can be very expensive or require a lot of grind but even casual players should be able to find something to put into their hall, for example: You get a statue for completing  each campaign, plus another for achieving the campaigns titles so with 3 campaigns that’s already 6 statues.

Discuss in the forum for help on filling your Hall of Monuments.

  • Read Ghost of Ascalon

Not only is it a really interesting fantasy book but it’s also filled but delicious tid-bits of lore, again don’t worry I won’t let out any spoilers. There will be even more Guild wars books coming out as well! The next being ‘Destinty’s Edge’ which is the story of the once great adventuring guild of the same name.

  • Recap on video’s, articles and blog posts.

Firstly you should dissect The Guild Wars 2 website and ArenaNet’s website for as much information as you can possibly find in the form of video’s, articles and other blog posts. You could also do a few Google searches for interviews on 3rd party websites as there is a lot of information in the interview’s that hasn’t been covered on the official sites!

  • View Gamescom 2010 and PAX 2010 coverage

PAX and Gamecom are the only places where any real GW2 footage has been shown so far and if you haven’t seen any yet, jump and Youtube and find yourself some gameplay videos! The gameplay is amazing and this isn’t even near the final product!

  • Reserve your character names

Finally reserve your character names for GW2! You don’t want to have an awesome character planned out only to find your desired name is taken. Reserving a name is simple as ArenaNet has stated that your character names in GW1 are reserved for your account in GW2 so simply make a character in GW1 with character name you want.

And finally you can work on cosplay costumes, fan videos, taking beautiful  in game screen captures, fan lore and fan art. And don’t forget to tell us about it!

That’s all for now! I hope this makes the wait slightly less painful.

I can’t beleive i actually read GW articles but whatever. Good article, but I feel playing Guild Wars 1 only makes me more eager and exited to play GW2. I might as well endure a coma or carbon freeze myself until the release of GW2 and I am sure others feel the same way
