Dungeons!

The Guild Wars 2 website got update with a Dungeons page! For a seasoned PvE veteran like myself this is very exciting stuff. If you haven’t already check it out.

Dungeons seem to function basically the same as any other dungeon in pretty much every other MMO before expect for a key difference. The first time you run through a dungeon you enter the Story mode of the dungeon which is part of the overall story arc of Destiny’s Edge members, the story mode is the more linear cinematic experience. On completion of story mode you unlock explorable mode which is more challenging and provides more possible routes to finish the dungeon.

Each of our dungeons is divided into story and explorable versions. The story version of each dungeon comes first, and completing it unlocks the ability to run the explorable version. In turn, the explorable versions of the dungeons have several options (usually three), each of which creates a different set of challenges and goals in the game. So, when we say that there are currently eight dungeons, we really mean there are thirty-two dungeons, as each dungeon has a story version and three explorable versions.

In any MMO I find dungeons to be one of the most enjoyable experiences but i find they are far too repetitive for the amount of time I have to spend in them. While the changes here won’t prevent the problem of content getting stale (its unrealistic to think anyone could do this) but this will make sure it will be a long time before anyone gets bored of the dungeons. By the time you would get bored of a particular you probably would have all the gear from the dungeon and would be on to the next one. I’m really excited for this system because not only does it provide a cinematic experience that’s accessible to all players but it also provides a challenging and repeatable experience for more experienced players.
