I was doing some researching in other forums etc. and it seems that there will be lot humans after all. I personally relate more to elven or other not so human races in all games, I must have land crashed here from somewhere far far away…

there may be a post somewhere regarding this, but are there established racial benefits/restrictions? I do plan on rolling a human ele from the start, but if I find out that there is a distinct advantage to rolling another race, I will for sure do so.

The racial abilities are weakened class skills so that no one chooses a race based off of what works best for a class. They're for flavor, not for power
As for racial restrictions there are none. An Asura Warrior is as strong as Norn

For me I will definitely make a Charr as my first character, cuz in prophecies you always fighting against them and i want to see the other side of the battle.

for me i have created a back story for many of my characters and so those characters race will reflect that. for instance my elementalist has stopped aging due to this water she drank that was infused with magic so she will become my hume in gw 2. MY Warrior on the other hand will most likely become a guardian sylvarri.

Hmm I did a similar thing but since i want my main to be an asura i'll make an alt that would be the descent of my main in GW1
