Ok so we've had favourite films and music tastes, so I thought we might as well have one for the written word too!
Also, noticed a few people putting in quotes about the place, so I thought I'd ask what people's favourite quotes (in a very loose sense of the word) are, if any?

For me, I like crime/thrillers and Fantasy books. My favourite authors are currently Lee Child, Agatha Christie and Terry Pratchett.
A very small selection of my favourite books (in no particular order):

  • Discworld – Terry Pratchett
  • The Riftwar Saga – Raymond E. Feist
  • To Kill a Mockingbird – Harper Lee
  • The Jack Reacher books – Lee Child
  • Poirot books – Agatha Christie

Favourite Quotes:
"The abuse of greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power" – William Shakespeare (<3 because of Eden of the East :3)
"What good's religion when it's each other we despise?" – Placebo (Sleeping With Ghosts)

I'll have to have a good think about favourite quotes – I know there are some in the last Erikson book I read but I'd have to find them.

Anyway! Favourite books or series are:

  • The Malazan Book of the Fallen – Steven Erikson
  • Discworld – Terry Pratchett
  • His Dark Materials – Phillip Pullman
  • The Black Magician – Trudi Canavan
  • Hawkmoon – Michael Moorcock
  • The Belgariad/The Malloreon – David Eddings

Also currently reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

Placebo is a great band – Saw them live and wow!

Anyway back on topic, I dont really read that much (I know Redean doesn't either) so my fav books are the ones I don't put down after the first chapter :)

These are lord of the rings and the hobbit (hobbit being my fav book), The Exorcist and Tom Clancy: Net force.
Come to think about it those are the only books I've voluntarily read.

My fav quotes, I have tones you can find them here http://mindfsck.net/quotes/.

Great suggestion!

Favorite Books:

Confessions by Saint Augustine
The Thomas Covenant Chronicles by Stephen R. Donaldson
The Soul's Journey by Bonaventure

Favorite Quotes:

"O happy race of men
If Love who rules the sky
Could rule your hearts as well!" ~ Boethius, Consolation of Philosophy

"Here ceased the powers of my high fantasy.
Already were all my will and my desires
turned – as a wheel in equal balance – by
The Love that moves the sun and the other stars." ~ Dante, Paradise

NOTE: If you love Love you will love Medieval literature.  So, pick up and read!!

I never really got into the Thomas Covenant books. My parents were big fans, but I didn't get more than a third of the way through the first one. I probably should try again.. :<

I've recently come upon a copy of Ghosts of Ascalon and find the story really good.

Also got my hands on the 9th book in the Malazan series (mentioned in my list above) and can't wait to start reading it!

It's not *that* good… ok, maybe it is…

I said the story is good.

I do find myself picking it apart a lot though :/

I nearly threw the book out ofthe window the other day when I read the word 'flowage.' Nowhere in the English language has that ever been a word xD I also don't like the use of 'gotten', 'off of', 'a couple…' (instead of 'a couple of…') and the insane amounts of the use of 'said' in the dialogue. But I understand that some of those are just Americanisms, so that is excusable.

Saying all this (and that the book is simplistically written,) it has a compelling story and the details about the world are pretty good. It gives a good visual idea of what the world around Ascalon looks like.

I'm not sure you quite picked up on my interpreting your sentence as a double entendre ;D

And yeah, I think I raised the writing style as my biggest issue with the book. Story was good, but I just didn't like how it was told.

Well be glad that the pattern so far is that they the change the author for each book, surely they will come across an author with a writing style that you will enjoy ;D
