I've had some requests to explain ways to make money effectively so I will try to outline them here. If they are campaign specific I will name the campaign. Firstly: Gold farming: can be done anywhere in normal or hard mode by going solo or in a very small group where the recommended party size is 8 (also works in party size of 6 areas, although monsters are easier so therefore drops are never as good). It does not take long to gain several platinum from gold alone. Selling other drops also yields quite a lot too. Material farming: can be very profitable and can be used for several things. Many players do not want to spend a long time farming materials or the expense of buying from traders. They will buy materials for elite or even standard armour, or more commonly for making Consets (I will mention these further down). Obviously the rarer the material the more it will sell for. Non-rare materials can be farmed and then turned into a rare material via an artisan for a small fee (an example is making Vellum from wood planks and dust where the profit can be many times the price paid to craft the Vellum). Storyline Books: can be a good way to 1. progress your character through Protector and Guardian titles 2. progress through allegiance titles, and 3. make money.
*The Young Heroes of Tyria book can only be completed in Hard Mode. Running: can be profitable without too much effort. Running can only really be achieved in Prophecies or EotN. Running to places can yield lots of money especially if a run is difficult. Some of the major runs are:
*Droks run is almost exclusively run by Dervishes. Some missions can also be run, such as A Time for Heroes and Imperial Sanctum although those are both profession specific (monk/mesmer/assassin and elementalist, respectively). Dungeons can also be run, usually by assassins but also by Rit/Mo Mo/Rit and fees can be charged accordinly (usually 2k per player). Another type of run is a speed clear. Typically done in some dungeons, the Underworld, Fissure of Woe and also Fast Faction Farming (FFF) areas. The two FFF areas are Drazach Thicket (DTSC) (from French 1 Eternal Grove) and Mount Qinkai (MQSC) (from German 1 Aspenwood Gate); they usually take 8-13 minutes per vanquish and award around 10k faction and 2k gold per run. If a successful team is formed and stays together for 6 10 minute runs, then you gain 60k faction and 12k gold per hour. Zaishen Quests: can be coupled with storyline books for extra monetary gain. These reward gold and Zaishen Coins which when accumulated (50 Copper = 1 Silver, 10 Silver = 1 Gold) can be exchanged for tomes, party/alcohol/sugar title items, or bigger value Equipment Packs; Large sell for around 40k and Heavy sell for around 100k. Since they are the most expensive rare material in the game I gave Globs of Ectoplasm their own section. Call them what you will (Ectos, Globbies, E, Globs) they are worth roughly 7k each or around 14/15 for 100k. They can be farmed in the Underworld (UW) and occasionally drop in certain areas in the Fissure of Woe (FoW). Finally,
*Essences can be sold separately for 4k each as BU (Back-Up essence) Consets use per set: 100 Iron, 100 dust, 50 bone and 50 feathers. Feathers are very worthwhile to farm in Nahpui Quarter (mission) or from any Tengu. Iron can be salvaged from many weapons in Nahpui Quarter and also from Steel. You can still make a profit from selling Consets even if you buy all of the materials (if you do it this way, buy in bulk to try to get some kind of discount; a seller will often knock a lot off if you buy a full stack over buying only, say, 50units). Note: Prices for stacks of materials may and will vary so it is always best to check out the markets (America 1 in Kamadan and America 1 in Lion's Arch are always busy). I will, however, try to keep on top of the market as much as I can. |
